The Shumard Red Oak is known for its beautiful and vibrant red fall color and high growth rate. This tree grows quite large reaching up to 80 feet in height and 50 feet across. You'll find the Shumard Red Oak to be popular among wildlife as it sheds 1.5" acorns during the fruiting season. The Shumard Red Oak is very similar to the Texas Red Oak but slightly larger with a higher growth rate. Both trees feature excellent fall color during the autumn months.

Trees require a long thorough soaking regularly to stay alive. The amount of time required to water your tree and the inverval in which you do so varies by tree size and soil type. All customers are provided with a cake test stick and a demonstration on how to properly assess their soil upon purchasing their tree from The Tree Place.

If you choose to install your tree on your own, it's important you do so correctly to ensure the health of your tree! To plant your tree correctly you must be sure to score your roots, bury at the correct depth, create a berm, and mulch properly. To ensure your health and safety, it is important to also call 811 before planting a tree. 811 provides a free utility location service to ensure you do not interact with any potentially hazardous buried utilities during your planting process. This step is crucially important and may take up to 48 hours to complete.

If you elect to have your tree installed professionally you can expect to have your tree installed correctly every time. If you elect to have your tree professionally installed, we waive the $100 delivery fee associated with orders to be delivered without installation. We provide you with installation, mulch, stakes (and staking) and root stimulator. By law, our contractors are required to contact 811 before digging to check the area for buried utilities. This process can take up to 48 hours due to the nature of the free service offered by 811. If no utility locate is needed, a waiver can be provided for you to sign off on for planting to commence.
