Chinquapin Oak

Quercus muehlenbergii

Fagaceae

Height 40' - 60'

Spread 20'- 40'

Deciduous

The Chinquapin Oak is a large tree with a rounded crown of glossy green foliage that turns a yellow to red-orange color in the fall. The bark is light grey, which becomes furrowed with age. The leaf is elliptical shape with teeth, which are slightly recurved. It does produce acorns but they are much smaller then that of the Bur Oak. This is another Texas Native so it is suitable to a wide range of soils, although they do like limestone soils.
